On the morning of Saturday, October 19th, our quiet little hamlet will again see an influx of 400 participants for South Mountain Heritage Society’s premiere fundraiser, the Spook Hill Cider & Wine 4-Mile Run and 3-Mile Walk.

SMHS has been hosting fundraising runs in town since 2008, with Spook Hill attendance peaking in 2019 with more than 500 registrants. These days, participation is capped at 425 registrants due to parking limitations.

There are road closures associated with the run and we appreciate the cooperation of town residents for this brief period of inconvenience. Closures will be in place from 8:20 a.m. and will be rolling, with W. Main Street and Mountain Church Road opening to traffic around 9:10 a.m.  East Main Street will be closed to through traffic from Lake Side Drive to the Ciderworks entrance from 8:20 until approximately 9:35 a.m. Please heed the direction of traffic control and FCSO personnel.

All participants will start on Main Street in front of the Ruritan at 8:30 on race morning and proceed west through town, eventually entering and coursing through the Boordy Vineyard, the cemetery, and through the South Mountain Creamery property before coming back onto Main Street eastbound. After this point, walkers will proceed to the finish line at the Ruritan and runners will be treated to a loop around the Distillery Lane Ciderworks orchard before they head to the finish line. All finishers will receive a commemorative wine-glass and a finishers medal.

The run takes a lot of volunteers to pull off. If you’re interested in volunteering, running, or walking, you can find more information via www.spookhill4mile.org or email spookhill4mile@gmail.com
